Notes from the Hack4Farming hackathon in Nairobi

The BitHub.Africa team was at the Hack4Farming hackathon facilitated by aWhere and our partners IOTAtoken whom we were representing. During the two day hackathon we were able to work with and advise the various #AgriTech startups present during the day.

Among the teams represented were:

  1. MbeguBora
  2. AgData
  3. Seedex

The winning was MbeguBora which in Swahili Kenya’s national language means good seed. Team MbeguBora  received the grand prize for their idea to build web-based and mobile apps that provide services to better connect farmers to agents and seed companies, and to minimize agricultural information gaps through seed variety recommendations and plot monitoring reports.

Team AgData received the Special Prize in IoT and Big Data for their proposal to implement a crop monitoring system that uses blockchain technology along with agronomic and weather data to inform farmers and seed companies how they can improve seed-related decisions.

We look forward to an exciting future of convergence of IOT(Internet of Things), Blockchain and Geo-location data to deliver better solutions to farmers across the African continent.
